Training in basic life support and the use of defibrillators

In a cardiac emergency, every second counts and an early response can make the difference between life and death. A basic life support course and use of the AED increases efficiency by reducing resuscitation times.

Sudden death is one of the main causes of death in Spain, with more than 30.000 deaths per year. In most of these deaths the cause is cardiorespiratory arrest (CPA), a sudden interruption of blood flow and breathing. Cardiorespiratory arrest does not distinguish between age, gender, place or activity.

Not only spaces with high crowds such as football stadiums or airports must be cardioprotected. Spaces such as gyms, shopping centers, neighborhood communities, offices, factories, hotels, transport companies, retirement homes, schools and universities, among others, should also have a DESA and train staff in SVB.

Basic life support (BLS) is a series of maneuvers that are performed to maintain ventilation and blood supply in a person who has suffered a PCR. Basic life support includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which consists of applying resuscitation techniques, chest compressions and ventilations properly applied artificial

As an introduction, the semiautomatic external defibrillator (DESA) is an electromedical device that uses an electric shock to restore normal heart rhythm in a person who has suffered a PCR or cardiopulmonary arrest. The AED defibrillator is a safe and easy-to-use device, even for people without medical training.

Understanding Basic Life Support

Basic Life Support (SVB) is a set of maneuvers that anyone can apply to keep a person in cardiac arrest alive until medical services arrive.

Time is a critical factor in emergency medical situations, prior training reduces nervousness and time in the application of defibrillation. In the case of a cardiorespiratory arrest, each minute that passes without CPR reduces the victim's chances of survival by 10%, with 5 minutes being the safety time limit.

This highlights the importance of being trained in BLS in any inhabited space, since we can all act as first responders in an episode of cardiorespiratory arrest.

Basic Life Support includes the following interventions:

  1. Identify signs and symptoms that indicate an immediate threat to life.
  2. Call 112 or instruct someone to call the emergency services.
  3. Start CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) with chest compressions and rescue breaths if necessary.
  4. Use of devices such as masks or face shields during CPR to prevent disease transmission.

The Chain of Survival and its links

La chain of survival It is closely related to basic life support, it is a key concept in first aid. It comprises a series of actions that, carried out sequentially and immediately, maximize the chances of survival of a person in cardiorespiratory arrest. The chain of survival will be as strong as its links.

The 4 links in the chain of survival:

  1. Recognition and call for emergency services: Identify the signs of cardiac arrest and quickly alert emergency services.
  2. Immediate CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation): Timely intervention with chest compressions can maintain blood flow and oxygen to the brain.
  3. Early defibrillation: This is where the DESA defibrillator comes into play. The sooner a shock is delivered to a shockable rhythm, the greater the chance of return to an effective cardiac rhythm.
  4. Advanced Life Support and post-cardiac arrest care: Once vital signs are restored, it is essential to provide adequate medical care.

Semiautomatic External Defibrillators (DESA) are devices specially designed for use by the general public. Its job is to detect fatal cardiac arrhythmias and deliver an electric shock to restore normal heart rhythm.

Basic Life Support Courses | Neosalus

Neosalus is a basic life support and first aid academy authorized in all the autonomous communities of Spain to provide training.

We teach basic life support courses to companies, entities and individuals. We carry out CPR workshops for town councils, entities, schools, companies, associations, neighborhood communities and groups. Training subsidized by Fundae up to 100%, ask us any questions or questions you may have.

To face the cardioprotection of public and private spaces from training, we offer specialized courses in Basic Life Support and use of DESA DEA defibrillators.

Safety position in the event of cardiopulmonary arrest

This basic life support and AED use training is designed for the general public of all ages. Making sure that you and your team are trained in CPR can make the difference between life and death.

The importance of knowing how to use DESA defibrillators

Training in the use of DESA defibrillators is essential to increase the chances of survival of people who undergo CPA. Prior training allows people to know how to use an AED safely and effectively.

Education and prevention are essential in the face of sudden death. For all those interested in acquiring or deepening their knowledge in BLS and DESA, we offer specialized courses.

In our BLS courses, not only theory is taught, but simulated practice is performed, allowing participants to gain confidence and skill in these vital CPR maneuvers.

Prevention and preparation do not know of times or places, you have to be prepared. Each cardioprotected space, whether public or private, benefits from having people trained in these resuscitation techniques and with access to a DESA defibrillator.

Who can take the basic life support and defibrillator use course?

The Basic Life Support (BLS) and defibrillator use course is designed to be accessible and useful to a wide variety of people, regardless of prior medical training. In fact, the main objective of these courses is to train as many people as possible so that they can respond effectively in the event of a cardiac emergency.

Material for the course of basic life support and use of the defibrillator

  1. Healthcare professionals: Doctors, nurses, EMTs, dentists, physical therapists, and other health-related professionals.
  2. education professionals: Teachers, educators and school staff can find vital tools in these trainings, especially if they work with populations at risk such as children or with specific medical conditions.
  3. Gym and sports center staff: Since vigorous physical activity can trigger cardiac events, especially in individuals with undiagnosed heart conditions, trained trainers to respond quickly.
  4. Employees of places with a high influx of public: These include shopping centers, airports, train stations, hotels, fairs, restaurants, nightlife, campsites, offices and corporate buildings.
  5. Safety and first aid personnel: Security guards, firefighters, police personnel and other professionals in charge of security and emergency response.
  6. Relatives of people at high risk: Individuals who have family members with heart disease, a history of cardiac arrest, or conditions that increase the risk of cardiac emergencies may benefit from these courses.
  7. General public: Anyone aware of the importance of basic life support and acquire skills to save lives. No previous medical experience or training is necessary, check out our offers of face-to-face courses on basic life support and use of the AED throughout Spain.

It is important to note that while anyone can take the Basic Life Support course, it is essential to receive proper training and keep certifications up to date to ensure that BLS techniques and defibrillator use are performed correctly in emergency situations.
